Apex JV Battles John Paul II!

Savannah Apex JV officially opened its season on the road playing against John Paul II, and there was a lot to like about what we saw in our first match.

John Paul II brought a very talented team with experienced club players, and our JV girls held their own, pushing the match to a deciding third set. We aren’t disappointed in the loss — our girls played hard, competed, and showed us a lot in their first game of the season.

One of the biggest positives was how many players contributed throughout the match.

Kennedy Martinez (#27) anchored the back row with 17 digs and went 27-for-29 in serve receive (93%), while also adding a kill and an ace. Liv Lewis (#17) ran the offense with 8 assists, added 2 aces, went 6-for-6 defensively and was perfect on her two serve-receive opportunities.

At the net, Sarah Grace James (#24) finished with 2 kills and a block, while Elise Purifoy (#37) added a kill and a block with no attack errors. Lola Wacker (#11) contributed 2 kills, 3 digs, and an ace.

Kyleigh Black (#42) added 2 kills and an ace while serving a perfect 7-for-7. Emma DiFabio (#28) was also perfect from the service line at 8-for-8 with 2 aces and went 3-for-4 in serve receive. Tatum Smith (#32) added a kill and successfully handled 6 of 8 serve-receive attempts.

JV Team Stats vs. John Paul II

  • Aces: 7
  • Kills: 9
  • Blocks: 2
  • Digs: 29
  • Serve Receive: 45/54 (83%)
  • Assists: 8

For the first JV match of the season, this was exactly the kind of competition we want our girls to see. A good volleyball team tested them, pushed them to three sets, and had contributions coming from all over the court.

We’ll keep tweaking a few things, but game one gave us a great starting point. This group played hard, stayed competitive, and showed that they can hang with talented teams.

We’re excited to see how much this JV team grows from here.
