Savannah Apex Varsity Rallies for 3–1 Win Over Hilton Head Prep

Savannah Apex Varsity picked up a 3–1 win over Hilton Head Prep, responding to a tight opening-set loss by taking the next three sets to close out the match.

This match was proudly sponsored by Vector Power, a Savannah Apex Gold Sponsor. We are grateful for their support of our athletes and our program this season.

The first set couldn’t have been much closer, with Hilton Head Prep edging Apex 28–26. Instead of letting that set get away from them mentally, our girls came back and won the next three 25–18, 25–19, and 25–18.

Set Scores

  • Set 1: 26–28 (L)
  • Set 2: 25–18 (W)
  • Set 3: 25–19 (W)
  • Set 4: 25–18 (W)

It was a strong all-around match for Apex, with contributions coming from throughout the lineup.

Aubrey Gerke (#6) led the offense with 13 kills and added 4 aces from the service line. She was also perfect in serve receive, going 15-for-15, and added 8 digs.

Kayleigh Grier (#4) had another strong all-around performance with 10 kills, 2 aces, and 16 digs. She also successfully handled 18 of 21 serve-receive attempts.

Clemy Baladi (#20) added 6 kills and an ace while continuing to give Apex a presence in the middle.

Abigail Stephens (#19) had an efficient offensive match, putting down 4 kills on 26 attempts without an attack error. She also added a dig.

Reagan Martinez (#21) ran the offense with 30 assists and added 17 digs, an ace and a block. She also went 12-for-12 on serve receive.

Alexis Cutler (#13) anchored the back row with a team-high 23 digs and went 20-for-21 in serve receive for 95%. She was also perfect from the service line on 23 attempts with 2 aces and added 3 assists.

Alexandria Dearman (#0) contributed 11 digs, went 12-for-13 in serve receive for 92%, and added 3 aces.

Sarah Grace James (#24) added a kill and a block while going 2-for-2 defensively.

Varsity Team Stats

  • Aces: 13
  • Kills: 34
  • Blocks: 2
  • Assists: 34
  • Digs: 79
  • Serve Receive: 66/71 — 93%

The team’s 93% serve receive was one of the biggest positives of the match. Aubrey was perfect on all 15 of her receptions, Alexis finished at 95%, Alexandria at 92%, and Kayleigh successfully handled 18 receptions.

Offensively, Apex had 34 kills, led by Aubrey’s 13 and Kayleigh’s 10, with Clemy adding six and Abigail four. Reagan distributed 30 assists as Apex found production from multiple hitters.

But one of the best parts of this match was the response after Set 1.

Losing a set 28–26 can easily change the momentum of a match. Instead, our girls came back, won Set 2 by seven, took Set 3, and finished the job with another seven-point win in Set 4.

Three straight-set wins and a 3–1 victory made this a really solid team performance and another positive step forward for Savannah Apex Varsity.
